Jailbreak and/or Unlock your iPhone or iPhone 3G

Unlocking your iPhone is pretty straightforward. It's a lot easier than people think, and reversible if you need to bring it to Apple to get fixed or something. Nowadays, iPhone unlocks are purely software based and don't require the use of weird SIM cards, or opening your phone.

Be sure to use a non-AT&T SIM card in the phone while unlocking it. T-Mobile works best. If you have an AT&T SIM in it, some features like Mail can become un-usable.

  • Go to ziphone and download the software for your Mac or PC (it's better for Mac. don't ask me why, PCs just aren't as good with it)

  • Plug your iPhone in via USB and click either "Unlock, Jailbeak & Activate" or "Jailbeak & Activate"

  • Wait a few minutes, and you're all done

Note that if you update your software after you do this, it'll be locked again and you'll need to unlock it. Also, if you have to return everything to it's previous state, use "iErase BL 3.9 baseband (refurbish)" under the "Advanced" tab in or the "Restore" button in iTunes.
